INDIA IMPORTS 18.9 MILLION MT COAL IN DECEMBER, UP 11% ON MONTH: INTEROCEAN

India imported around 18.9 million mt of coal in December through 29 major ports, up 11.2% month on month, according to data released Friday by Indian shipbroker Interocean.

Of the total, thermal coal accounted for 15 million mt, up almost 14% from November, while coking coal imports rose 0.4% to 3.85 million mt, the data showed.

Mundra port on the west coast received the highest volume of coal shipments at 2.9 million mt, up 49% from November, consisting of 2.83 million mt of thermal coal and 79,756 mt of coking coal.

Goa port on the west coast received the highest volume of coking coal shipments at 951,087 mt, up from 888,644 mt in November.

Of the total 18.9 million mt of coal imported in December, Indonesia supplied 11.3 million mt, Australia 3.32 million mt, South Africa 3.64 million mt, and the US 415,888 mt. Imports from other countries totaled 233,035 mt.

Adani Enterprises, JSW Group, Swiss Singapore, Tata Group, Agarwal Coal and Steel Authority of India Limited are the leading importers of coal into India.
